Philippines Withdraw From ICC Membership

Philippines withdraw from ICC Membership. The move by the government of Philippines to withdraw from the ICC (International Criminal Court) has had no voice the Supreme Court. Furthermore, this will take effect from Sunday 17th 2019.

Similarly, Supreme Court failed to issue a ruling on the petitions filed by 6 opposition senators and PCICC. Senators Francis Pangilinan, Franklin Drilon, Leila de Lima, Bam Aquino, Antonio Trillanes IV and Risa Hontiveros and PCICC want the SC to nullify President Rodrigo Duterte’s unilateral act of withdrawing the country’s membership from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“The withdrawal from ICC takes effect, without prejudice to the Supreme Court resolving the petitions later on and ruling on the prayer for issuance of writ of mandamus,” one of the sources reported.

Most noteworthy, Solicitor General Jose Calida argued that the Court no longer has jurisdiction over the matter after the ICC officially accepted the Philippine government’s withdrawal last year.
