The National Super Alliance (NASA) party of Kenya that is spearheaded by Raila Odinga is still on its struggle to rule the kenyan Republic of Kenya. on Saturday, NASA directed its MPs to boycott scrutiny of President Kenyatta’s cabinet nominees to parliament, in its newest measures to protest Kenyatta’s re-election.
NASA claimed that it won the August 8 presidential election, urging its supporters to shun the swearing-in ceremony of President Kenyatta as they do not recognize his election.
Speaking during a meeting chaired by NASA Co-principals Raila and M. Mudavadi that brought together its governors, senators, MPs and county assembly leadership, the opposition unveiled a raft of measures they believe will isolate President Kenyatta’s government in parliament.
“We recognize Raila Amolo Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka as the legitimate president and deputy president of the republic of Kenya respectively, and as sovereign people commit ourselves to see to it that they assume office,” said Mudavadi.
NASA maintained that it will continue the people’s assembly motions in various county assemblies terming it a “course to restore democracy”, with its inaugural convention set for December.
The opposition also condemned the government for criminalizing the passage of the motions and threatening to surcharge MCAs for abuse of their powers.
“The rights of citizens to exercise their sovereignty at the county levels is not subject to supervision by the nation government,” said NASA Leader Mr. Raila Odinga.
